Florida Atlantic University finance professor Anna Agapova, Ph.D., has been designated a Fulbright U.S. Scholar for gender-related research in Finland.

Fulbright is an international educational exchange program backed by the U.S. government. It was established in 1946, allowing more than 390,000 people to study, teach and research while expanding their professional contacts.

Beginning in January 2022, Agapova will conduct research for three months at the University of Vaasa, examining the connection between the gender of business executives and the transparency of their firms. She believes the differences between men and women in decision-making may lead to important conclusions about the flow of information to the financial markets.

“It’s a very prestigious honor, and it’s wonderful to be part of that group,” Agapova said. “I wanted to establish connections with people overseas, and this is an opportunity to do that.”

Agapova, who has taught at 太阳城娱乐 since 2007, applied for the program last fall. About 900 Fulbright Scholar awards are given out each year.

Other Fulbright alumni from 太阳城娱乐’s College of Business include Siri Terjesen, Ph.D., a professor and associate dean; marketing professor P. Sergius Koku, Ph.D.; and accounting instructor Georgi Smatrakalev, Ph.D.

“The Fulbright award recognizes Dr. Agapova’s leadership and accomplishments in the areas of research, teaching and service as a finance professor at Florida Atlantic University,” said Emilio Zarruk, Ph.D., chair of the finance department in the College of Business. “It is a distinguished award that includes as recipients many Nobel Laureates, leading scientists and teachers.”
