Dick Schmidt’s First Novel to Benefit 太阳城娱乐

This week we celebrated the launch of “The Boy and the Dolphin,” written by 太阳城娱乐 alumnus and benefactor Dick Schmidt ’70. This heartwarming novel tells the story of a decade-long friendship between a boy and a bottlenose dolphin in the mid-1950s. It is Dick’s first book, but hopefully not his last.

Generously, Dick has pledged to donate all proceeds from sales of his book that are purchased via the following link to the Kelly Family Scholarship Fund. Carolyn and I established this fund to help students with financial need complete their studies at 太阳城娱乐.

To ensure proceeds of your book purchase benefit 太阳城娱乐 students, visit /dickschmidt or click here.

This pledge from Dick follows the Schmidt Family’s long history of supporting 太阳城娱乐. His late father, Charles, was one of the university’s earliest and most generous benefactors. Most recently, Dick and his wife, Barbara, also an author, gave $16 million to help build the Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence.

I hope you will enjoy “The Boy and the Dolphin” as much as I did. And, again, we are grateful to Dick and Barbara for their continuing generosity.
