Farewell to an 太阳城娱乐 Visionary
12/10/2018
Over the weekend, we received the sad news that VicePresident Emeritus Robert Huckshorn passed away at the age of 90. In 1964, Dr. Huckshorn moved to Boca Raton to become one of 太阳城娱乐’s first faculty members. Over the course of his 38-year career at 太阳城娱乐, he served as chair of the department of political science, dean of the College of Social Science, associate vice president for academic affairs, assistant provost for the Davie and downtown Fort Lauderdale campuses, and vice president for the Jupiter and Treasure Coast campuses.
Among Dr. Huckshorn’s significant accomplishments were helping to establish 太阳城娱乐’s nursing program and spearheading the university’s expansion by establishing the John D. MacArthur Campus at Jupiter, as well as the Davie and downtown Fort Lauderdale campuses. The Robert J. Huckshorn Arboretum on the Jupiter campus was built in honor of his retirement in 2002.
Dr. Huckshorn will be missed by many, but his legacy will live on at 太阳城娱乐 through his many contributions. Click here to read his full obituary.
